Meal: Chengdu – Wolong Panda Base
Your guide and driver will pick you up from your Chengdu hotel in the morning and transfer you to Wolong Panda Base, located in the beautiful Qionglai Mountains of Sichuan. Unlike a regular panda viewing tour, today's experience allows you to become part of the panda conservation team and discover the daily work behind protecting giant pandas.
Morning: Registration & Panda Keeper Activities
Arrive at Wolong Panda Base around 8:30 AM and complete the volunteer registration process. Receive your volunteer uniform, gloves, and necessary equipment before attending a safety briefing. Professional staff will introduce the daily schedule, safety requirements, and basic knowledge about panda conservation. After preparation, begin your panda keeper experience under the guidance of professional caretakers.
Participate in conservation tasks including:
Panda Habitat Maintenance
Enter designated working areas and help prepare a clean and comfortable environment for giant pandas.
Activities may include:
- Cleaning panda activity areas
- Picking up panda waste
- Washing panda enclosures
- Adding fresh bamboo supplies
Through these simple but important tasks, understand how much daily care is required to protect and support giant pandas.
Panda Feeding Observation & Behavior Learning
From approximately 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, observe professional keepers during panda feeding time. Watch how pandas interact with their food, learn about their eating habits, and understand panda behavior through guided observation.
Your guide and panda staff will explain:
- Panda diet and bamboo preferences
- Daily activity patterns
- Individual panda personalities
- Conservation and breeding efforts
This unique observation provides a deeper understanding beyond simply taking photos.
Lunch & Panda Conservation Documentary
From 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, enjoy lunch at the panda base staff cafeteria. Experience a simple staff-style meal and take a short break before continuing the afternoon program.
After lunch, watch an educational panda documentary that introduces:
- The history of giant panda conservation
- Challenges facing panda protection
- How researchers and keepers work together to protect this species
Afternoon: Making Panda Food & Volunteer Certificate Ceremony
From 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, join a creative hands-on activity — making traditional panda “wowotou” food.
Learn about:
- The ingredients used in panda food
- How panda nutrition is carefully prepared
- The relationship between diet and panda health
After completing the activity, receive your official Wolong Panda Base Volunteer Certificate.
Take photos with your certificate and keep this special memory of your panda conservation journey.
After the experience, return to Chengdu by private vehicle.
