Day 1: Beijing | Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park & Qianmen Street

Accommodation Accommodation:

Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

This morning, your driver will meet you directly at your hotel lobby. While Beijing is famous for its size and traffic, today you won't need to worry about directions, transportation or attraction reservations. We've already handled the details, leaving you free to enjoy the experience.

Our first stop is Tiananmen Square, a place that immediately makes everything feel bigger. The open space seems to stretch endlessly in every direction, while some of China's most important buildings frame the skyline around you. Standing here offers the perfect introduction to Beijing's scale before stepping into the world hidden behind the red walls ahead. As your guide shares the stories that shaped this area, you'll begin to understand why nearly every major chapter of modern Chinese history has passed through this square. And then, beyond the crowds and flagpoles, the golden rooftops of the Forbidden City start to appear.

Walking through the Meridian Gate feels less like entering a museum and more like stepping into a different century. The city outside suddenly disappears behind towering walls, replaced by vast courtyards, ceremonial halls and endless layers of imperial architecture. As we move deeper into the palace complex, your guide will reveal the stories hidden behind the grandeur—emperors who ruled an empire, officials who spent decades competing for influence and servants whose entire lives unfolded within these walls. Rather than racing through every corner, we'll focus on the most fascinating sections while allowing time to appreciate the details that make the Forbidden City extraordinary. Look up at the rooftops, notice the carved marble staircases and imagine what daily life must have looked like here hundreds of years ago. By the time we leave, the palace will feel much more like a living story than a historical monument.

After a morning of exploration, we'll stop for lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. This is a great opportunity to recharge while sampling classic Beijing flavors. If you're curious about local specialties, your guide will happily offer recommendations beyond the dishes most tourists typically encounter.

Fortunately, the next stop requires only a short walk. Jingshan Park rises gently behind the Forbidden City, and after a brief climb you'll be rewarded with one of the most famous views in all of Beijing. From the hilltop pavilion, thousands of golden rooftops stretch toward the horizon, revealing the incredible symmetry of the imperial city. It's the kind of view that instantly makes everyone reach for their camera. More importantly, it helps connect everything you've explored throughout the morning. Suddenly, the sheer scale of the Forbidden City makes perfect sense.

By late afternoon, we'll trade emperors and palaces for something far more down-to-earth. Qianmen Street offers a glimpse into the commercial life that once thrived outside the imperial city walls. Historic storefronts line the streets, traditional architecture mixes with modern energy and the aroma of local snacks drifts through the air. This is one of the best places to simply wander. Maybe you'll stop for a freshly baked pastry. Maybe you'll browse a century-old shop. Or maybe you'll just enjoy watching daily life unfold around you while the lanterns begin to glow overhead. As evening arrives, old Beijing feels particularly charming here.

After a full day of imperial history and historic neighborhoods, your driver will take you comfortably back to your hotel. Tomorrow, we'll exchange palace walls for mountain ridges and discover China's most legendary landmark.

Day 2: Beijing | Badaling Great Wall Experience

Accommodation Accommodation:
N/A (Flexible, can be included based on your needs)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

This morning starts a little earlier, but in a good way. Your guide and driver will meet you in your hotel lobby, and once you're settled in the vehicle, Beijing begins to slowly "fall away." High-rise buildings gradually give way to wider roads, then open suburbs, and eventually the landscape starts to change in a way you can actually feel—not just see. There's a moment, usually about halfway through the drive, when someone in the car realizes: we're really heading into the mountains now. And that's exactly when the anticipation kicks in.

As the road climbs gently upward, the scenery becomes noticeably more rugged. Hills start to rise on both sides, and the air feels slightly clearer compared to the city. Then, almost without warning, the Wall appears. Not as a single dramatic reveal—but in fragments at first. A watchtower on a ridge. A stone line disappearing behind a hill. And then suddenly, everything connects, and you realize you're looking at something that stretches far beyond what your eyes can take in at once. This is often the quietest moment of the day. People don't talk much here, they just look.

Once inside the Badaling scenic area, the experience becomes very personal. Some sections of the Wall are wide and steady, while others require a bit more effort as the stone steps climb sharply upward. Your guide will help you choose the direction and pace that suits you best—there's no need to rush or "complete" anything here. What matters more is how the landscape keeps changing as you move. One watchtower opens up to endless rolling mountains. Another gives you a close-up view of the Wall snaking across ridges like it was drawn directly onto the terrain. Between towers, there are quieter stretches where you can actually pause without interruption, just listening to wind moving across the mountains. And yes—this is usually where the best photos happen, not at the entrance, but somewhere in between.

After descending from the Wall, lunch feels well-earned. We stop at a local restaurant near the scenic area, where the pace naturally slows down again. No rush, no tight schedule—just time to sit, rest your legs, and let the morning experience settle in. This is also usually when conversations start shifting from "how long is the Wall?" to "how on earth did they build this?"

The drive back to Beijing feels different from the morning. Now the Wall is behind you, and the experience starts to replay in your mind in fragments—the climb, the view, the wind, the scale. By the time the city skyline reappears in the distance, there's usually a quiet contrast between what you saw in the morning and where you're heading now. Modern Beijing slowly returns, ancient mountains fade behind you. And somewhere in between, the Great Wall stays with you longer than expected. Your driver will drop you back at your hotel in the afternoon, giving you time to rest—or simply scroll through a camera roll that's suddenly full of mountain ridges and stone watchtowers.

What Our Travelers Say

The trains made the route surprisingly easy

I had never traveled around China by high-speed train before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Once we got the hang of it, it was actually one of the easiest parts of the trip. Having someone meet us at the stations was especially helpful because some of the stations are enormous. We could just get off the train, find our driver and move on.

Thanks, Marlowe! Glad to hear our train journeys turned out to be easier than expected. Those big stations can definitely feel a bit overwhelming at first, so it's great to hear that having our driver there made things smoother. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the trip!

A Photographer's Kind of Day

If you like old architecture, bring a camera. Badaguan was probably my favorite part because every street seemed to have a slightly different look. The church and railway station were also great photo stops. I liked that the tour wasn't only about famous sights — there was plenty of time to notice small details along the way.

Thanks, Soren! We're delighted that the architectural side of Qingdao caught your eye. The city has so many small details that are easy to miss when you're in a hurry.

Definitely earned its reputation

I knew Mount Tai would be the big highlight for me, but it was still better than expected. The views kept changing as we went higher, and there was something really special about seeing the old temples and inscriptions along the mountain. The whole trip was also very well organized. We had enough time at each place without feeling like we were constantly watching the clock.

Beautiful City, Bring Comfortable Shoes

We really enjoyed the tour, although there is definitely a fair amount of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must. The old streets were probably my favorite part because there was something interesting around every corner. Baotu Spring was busy when we visited, but the water itself was beautiful. Overall, it was a very nice way to see the central part of Jinan in one day.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review and practical tip! We're glad you enjoyed the mix of Jinan's famous springs and quieter old streets. It was a pleasure to be part of your day in Jinan, and we hope you took home some lovely memories of the city.
