Shanghai Disneyland may share the familiar Disney magic found around the world, but it has plenty of character of its own. The park blends classic Disney stories with Chinese culture, imaginative architecture, and experiences you won't find at other Disney parks. From the moment you enter, it feels less like a copy of another Disneyland and more like a version made for Shanghai.
One of the most enjoyable things about Shanghai Disneyland is the way Disney traditions are mixed with local influences. For something you can't experience at another Disney park, head to Zootopia. Shanghai Disneyland is home to the world's first Zootopia-themed land, bringing the animated city to life with colorful streets, familiar characters, detailed buildings, and plenty of small touches inspired by the movie.
Mickey Avenue is the main entrance area of Shanghai Disneyland and the first themed land you'll encounter after entering the park. It has a colorful, classic Disney atmosphere and is a pleasant place to start your day, but it is not the main area for major rides.
Gardens of Imagination is one of the most open and relaxing areas of Shanghai Disneyland. With gardens, pathways, fountains, and views toward the Enchanted Storybook Castle, it feels quite different from the more immersive themed lands. It is especially pleasant for families with younger children and anyone who wants a slower break between attractions.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant

Instead of simply retelling the Pirates of the Caribbean story, the attraction uses boats, giant screens, physical sets, projections, water effects, and impressive audio-visual technology to create a large-scale pirate adventure.
You'll sail through an underwater world, encounter Captain Jack Sparrow, and experience a dramatic battle at sea.
Explorer Canoes
Take to the water in a traditional-style canoe and paddle around the waterways of Treasure Cove. Unlike the park's larger attractions, this is a hands-on experience where you actually help move the canoe.
It is best enjoyed when the weather is comfortable and you want something slower between major rides.

Rather than simply adding a Zootopia ride to an existing land, Shanghai Disneyland recreated the city itself, complete with distinctive neighborhoods, buildings, signs, shops, and familiar characters.
Zootopia: Hot Pursuit
The main attraction is Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, an action-packed ride featuring Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and a city-wide chase.

Mickey's Storybook Express is one of the signature daytime experiences at Shanghai Disneyland. Disney characters travel along the parade route on colorful floats accompanied by music, dancing, and plenty of waving and cheering.
The parade is particularly popular with families, but you don't need to be traveling with children to enjoy it. It's one of those classic Disney moments when the entire park seems to stop and watch together.
If you want a good view, don't wait until the last minute. Popular viewing areas can fill up well before the parade begins, especially on busy days. Check the route and schedule in the official app when you arrive, then choose a viewing spot that fits naturally into your itinerary.

Character encounters are a big part of the Shanghai Disneyland experience. Character Interaction Etiquette
When taking photos or greeting the characters, follow the Cast Members' instructions and keep the interaction comfortable for everyone.
1. Give a gentle hug from underneath the character's arms.
2. Avoid touching the character's shoulders or any area above the shoulders. Do not touch their head, ears, tail, or other costume features.
3. Do not keep your flash on continuously. If you need to use flash photography, let the character and photographer know and count down together: “3, 2, 1.”
Shanghai Disneyland offers seasonal celebrations throughout the year, with different themes and limited-time experiences.
Duffy Month
Usually held in September, Duffy Month features Duffy and his friends in a warm and playful celebration across the park. Experiences may include Chinese-style costumes, pajama-themed activities, and special appearances, often taking place alongside anniversary celebrations.
Halloween "Spook-tacular"
Usually running from October to November, the Halloween "Spook-tacular" brings special entertainment and decorations to Shanghai Disneyland. In Zootopia, Judy, Nick, and other characters may host the "Howl-O-Ween" celebration, with guests gathering at designated times to "howl on the hour." Children aged 12 and under may also join "Trick or Treat" activities. Look for Cast Members wearing pumpkin badges and say the designated magic phrase to receive candy.
Christmas Celebrations
Shanghai Disneyland's Christmas season, often known as the “Winter Wonderland” or Christmas season, is one of the most atmospheric times of the year, with beautiful photo spots and a rich lineup of activities.
The Mickey Magic Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place each evening in Gardens of Imagination, where Mickey, Minnie, LinaBell, and other characters light up the giant Christmas tree with music and colorful lights.
At night, Mickey's Magical Snowtime brings artificial snow to Mickey Avenue, accompanied by Christmas songs for a charming winter fairytale atmosphere. The Winter Wonderland Parade also features Disney friends in festive outfits, with highlights including Elsa and Olaf's Arendelle float and the new Zootopia float. Chinese New Year Celebrations
During Chinese New Year, Shanghai Disneyland may offer special entertainment and interactive experiences.
The New Year Drum Ceremony is held at 9:30 each morning in front of the castle, where Mickey and Minnie welcome the new year with an uplifting drum performance.
At the New Year Wishing Garden near the zodiac wall in Gardens of Imagination, guests can write blessings for family and friends on wishing cards and hang them in the designated area.
Shanghai Disneyland's nighttime spectacular, ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration, is one of the highlights of any visit. Combining castle projections, lasers, water screens, music, and fireworks, the 15–20-minute show transforms the Enchanted Storybook Castle into a magical storybook scene.
The show is usually scheduled around 8:00 p.m. or 9:15 p.m., with additional performances possible on weekends, holidays, or special occasions. Check the Shanghai Disneyland app on the day of your visit for the latest schedule.
Where to Watch the Nighttime Show
· In front of the castle at Gardens of Imagination: The best all-around view of the projections, water screens, and fireworks. Arrive 1–1.5 hours early on weekdays and around 2 hours early on busy days.
· Left side of the Gardens of Imagination bridge: A good choice for photography, with beautiful reflections of the castle and fireworks on the lake. Arrive about 1 hour early.
· End of Mickey Avenue: A more relaxed viewing area with a strong sense of depth and easier access when leaving the park.
· Near Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: A quieter, creative angle for photographing the fireworks with the roller-coaster track, although the front-facing projections may not be visible.
For a first visit, we recommend making time for the nighttime show. It is often the moment that makes the entire day feel truly magical.

Disney Premier Access is an optional paid service that lets you use a priority entrance for selected attractions.
It is especially useful when popular rides have long queues. Instead of spending a large part of your day waiting, you can use the Premier Access entrance and move through the attraction more quickly.

Arrive before the park opens and head straight to one of your top-priority attractions.
We recommend starting with Zootopia: Hot Pursuit or TRON Lightcycle Power Run, depending on your interests and the current wait times. After that, continue to Fantasyland for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Peter Pan's Flight.
If queues are already long, use the official app to adjust your route rather than sticking rigidly to a fixed order.
After lunch, continue toward Adventure Isle and Treasure Cove.
Ride Soaring Over the Horizon and Roaring Rapids in Adventure Isle, then head to Treasure Cove for Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure.
Later, explore Toy Story Land and choose between Rex's Racer, Slinky Dog Spin, and Woody's Roundup according to your group and the current wait times.
